THE PSYCHOLOGY OF WEIGHT CONTROL

July 27 2006: Some of the realpolitik of overweight became mainstream this week when the BBC's Real Story programme tracked the progress of various "slimming" organisations' "champion slimmers".

Relapse into the hopelessness of food and dieting issues was commonplace - though it would be doubtful if many ever touched their genuine issues in the first place, as it was the ancient tale of diuretics, crazy starvation and obsessive over-exercising.....oldskool Slimming Club City, baby!

As ever, the tyranny of these cattle markets' weighing scales was wrecking havoc on emotions already weak in relation to self-image and eating.

The solution, the programme mused, might be to consider more the issues underlying a poor relationship with food and eating than to obsess about every mouthful of food itself. That such messages are beginning to go mainstream is music to our ears.
