Welcome to :: The Weight Foundation.

IF YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT EATING, DIETING OR WEIGHT ISSUES , RELAX - YOU ARE NOW AMONG FRIENDS

The Weight Foundation seeks freedom from the harm and humiliation of repeated dieting through the development of strategies for natural and lasting weight-control.

It is our belief that our dieting-obsessed culture creates great and widespread pain. We are so concerned by the growing numbers of people becoming trapped within continual dieting cycles that we have our own term for this nightmare lifestyle - "Hardcore Dieting".

This site is for Hardcore Dieters and for anyone else concerned about their eating, dieting, or weight-control activities. It is a place for ideas and practical strategies about eating and the self to be explored and shared. We are utterly non-judgemental, except when it comes to the misery and madness of Hardcore Dieting.

We feel that obsessive dieting has for too long been out on the edges of research and debate about eating issues, yet we daily speak with individuals for whom dieting and weight-control assume completely central positions in their lives.

Our objective is to create new knowledge from a shared understanding and, from that, concrete ways to achieve freedom from problem eating and persistent dieting - a logical and practical process leading to lasting and stress free weight-control.

The site's main sections are:

Diet Truths discusses The Weight Foundation's core philosophy and beliefs.

Diet Lives gives insights into the world of the Hardcore Dieter. This section features The Hardcore Dieting Index*, a tool intended to help dieters better identify and assess their habits and a clickthru to our 3 Small Steps self-help system.

Diet-Free shares strategies to help move on to a life beyond obsessive dieting.

Diet-Watch is a regularly updated weblog relating to current dieting fads and fashions.

Research relates to a personal project of The Weight Foundation's founder, which is being conducted seperately from the Charity's work through Manchester Metropolitan University. This section features the Research Questionnaire*, inviting dieters to provide detailed feedback and so greatly widen the reach of the research (note that this is an invitation to participate in academic research, not an offer of therapy).

LOOK AROUND AT YOUR LEISURE. TAKE WHAT YOU CAN FROM US. TELL US ABOUT YOUR OWN EXPERIENCES. JOIN IN OUR RESEARCH. COME BACK REGULARLY. THIS IS WHAT WE ARE HERE FOR.

- We are a Registered Charity, whose key formal objects are as follows:

I) The relief of those suffering from eating disorders;

II) The preservation and protection of the physical and mental health of sufferers of eating disorders and obsessive dieting behaviour and their families and carers, by the provision of advice, information, support and counselling;

III) The advancement of education in the nature and treatment of eating disorders by the provision of meetings and website information;

IV) The promotion of research into the causes and treatment of eating disorders and the dissemination of the results of such reseach.

- You won't find a lot of direct references to "slimming" and "weight-loss" on this site - we tend to find that when people have natural and healthy relationships with food and eating, far away from the dieting madness, they in the main don't have weight problems.

*All input is actively encouraged. The Weight Foundation is research-driven and this research can only improve with your participation.

This site and some of the key, early stage work of The Weight Foundation has been sponsored by UnLtd, the Millennium Commission-backed promoter of social enterprise. It is also part-sponsored by our friend Ann, who has worked wonders in her own life.
